Steamboat Springs, CO “There may still be snow on the ground, but things are heating
up in the mountains with the announcement of the 2007 Steamboat Strings in the
Mountains Music Festival’s sizzling line-up of concerts. This summer’s festival will run
from June 14 to August 16. For twenty years the festival has had a rich history of quality
performances by bringing an award-winning classical music series, widely broadcast on
American Public Radio, and high caliber jazz, country, and world class blues musicians
to Steamboat, as well as youth and family concerts. This year is no exception.
In addition, for the first time, Strings will host a gala fundraising event, “Strings &
Stetsons”, on Thursday, June 21st. The evening will feature a gourmet western
dinner under the stars with unique auction items. There will also be a special concert
that evening by Grammy award winning Riders in the Sky. Auction items include;
VIP NCAA Men’s 2008 Final Four tickets and hotel for four; Private jet, lodging and
tickets to the 2007 Pageant of the Masters for six in Laguna Beach; and two VIP
tickets and lodging to the 2008 BCS Bowl National College Football Championships.
Tickets for this gala evening are available for $150.00 per person at the Strings office or
at www.stringsinthemountains.com
In 1988 Steamboat locals, Kay Clagett and Betse Grassby, began the Steamboat Strings
Music Festival. They had a dream of bringing music and culture to their small skiing
and ranching town. “We hoped that the first concert would bring at least 50 people.”
Clagett remembered, “We ended up with over 150. Now we have an annual audience of
30,000 people each summer and we are still growing!” Other Strings highlights over the
20 years include such renowned classical artists as Joshua Bell, Maestro Leonard
Slatkin, Hilary Hahn, Edgar Meyer and many others. The Different Tempo series has
featured Grammy award winning artists such as Nickel Creek, Kathy Mattea, Asleep at
the Wheel, and George Winston.
The biggest accomplishment to date was in 2004 when Strings purchased 7 acres of
land, giving Steamboat Strings Music Festival a permanent home at the beautiful
Festival Park. In 2005, Strings published an award winning cookbook, “Steamboat
Seasons”, which is available at many outlets throughout Colorado or through our
website. Looking towards the future, Strings has announced plans to replace the current
tent with a permanent building to improve the experience for their musicians and
audiences.
We invite you to come out and enjoy an evening of entertainment and become part of
the celebration of Steamboat Strings Music Festival’s 20th season. For a summer
