Prudential Steamboat Goes for the Gold…and Green

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association has announced that Prudential Steamboat Realty in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, has been awarded Gold Certification status in the Chamber's Sustainable Business Program.

"The owners of Prudential, Pam Vanatta  and Cameron Boyd, and their team have shown dedication and leadership in moving their business toward sustainable practices", says Lyn Halliday, President of Environmental Solutions Unltd, LLC the sustainability consultant for the project.   Prudential's sustainability coordinator, Angela Ashby, has created an internal team which has developed and begun implementation on a multi-dimensional action plan.  The plan will serve to reduce their carbon footprint and overall impact on the environment, as well as enhance resource management.   Some of the components include reducing vehicle miles traveled as a result of their operation, improving energy efficiency in their offices, an internal awareness  program to increase recycling, and greening of special events that are hosted by Prudential.

Furthermore agents and staff are incentivized to take advantage of public transportation, biking and creating energy efficient habits at home.  One of the more creative initiatives requires agents to put money in the donation jar each time they forget to turn off their office lights.

"With our industry consisting of driving people around town a great addition to the program is the offsetting of vehicle miles driven," said Cam Boyd co-owner at Prudential Steamboat Realty.  "Prudential Steamboat Realty will be matching these donations as well!"

Over 36 businesses in the Yampa Valley have enrolled in the Chamber's Sustainability Program, launched in March of 2007.

"This certification means a lot to our entire office.  It stands as a genuine commitment to this valley and our love for the area," said co-owner Cam Boyd.  "Now we just need to figure out how to show property on a bike, but I guess our carbon offset purchases will have to suffice for now."
