The third of eight Steamboat Springs Town Challenge Mountain Bike Series events will bring local racers back up the steeps of Howelsen Hill and lower Emerald Mountain.more>The Howelsen Hill Summer Sizzler Cross-Country race is tonight, starting a the base of Howelsen Hill.
Town Challenge race director Gretchen Sehler said the race should provide a tour of the trails crisscrossing Howelsen Hill and Emerald Mountain “from one end to the other.”
“It kind of goes up, down, up, down,” Sehler said of the winding course that climbs to the Heart Field, out MGM Trail nearly to the Quarry area before barreling down Upper Meadow. From there, the courses vary depending on age, gender and skill divisions.
Unlike the season’s previous race at Howelsen, which was a dual-lap circuit, this race will feature a single lap for the expert and pro divisions that is just longer than nine miles ...
